About me

Hello there! I’m Laura, the writer of this blog. By profession, I’m a senior software developer and architect with a particular interest in application security and software development best practices on the Microsoft cloud platform. I work at a Finnish consulting company called Sulava. In addition to working on consultation and development projects, and writing this blog, I also occasionally speak at conferences about similar topics.

I’ve been participating in software development projects involving Microsoft technologies for over a decade. I began my career by doing full-stack software development on Windows Server on-premises environments. However, for the past few years, I’ve worked purely with Microsoft cloud services. I design and implement different kinds of useful solutions for my customers, such as web applications, APIs, integrations and other background processes, and review solutions made by others for quality and security issues.

It is not enough for me that software does what it is supposed to. The solutions also need to be elegantly implemented, pleasant to use, cost-effective, effortless to maintain and secure. Particularly application security is close to my heart. In addition to implementing secure software myself, I also review the security of the applications implemented by others and teach secure application development to my developer colleagues as a part of my job. And I do all of this from the Microsoft cloud platform’s perspective, so we get to utilize its features and services in our solutions.

Since being active in the community, Microsoft has awarded me with the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award annually since 2019. I also hold the following certifications.

  • Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) since 2020
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Developer Associate
  • MCSD: App Builder
  • MCSA: Web Applications
  • Microsoft Specialist: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3
  • Microsoft Certified Professional
  • Scrum Alliance: Certified ScrumMaster (2016-2020)

This blog

For a long time, I thought about setting up a work-related blog to share knowledge and help others. We developers read a lot of blogs at work when searching for solutions to problems. Often someone else has also been in the same situation, and I get ideas based on their experience. However, sometimes I come across something I can’t find much information about, and that is when I wished I had a blog for sharing that information.

Before I set up this blog, the solutions lived only in my head, or I shared them just with my closest colleagues. Today, this blog allows a much larger group of people to benefit from that information, and also serves as “thanks” to the community whose blogs have helped me in the past. In the articles, I go through topics closely related to my work-life. In addition to writing new posts regularly, I’ll also keep the most relevant posts up to date, so they can continue to serve as a valuable resource.

I hope you enjoy your stay here!

Laura
